Afya Guard is a social venture committed to protecting pregnant women in rural Tanzania by promoting malaria awareness, and training women in producing organic mosquito repellent.
We empower rural women with malaria awareness, promoting cultivation of lemon grass around their homes and training in producing organic mosquito repellent.

Prevention is crucial for mothers and children because they are among the most vulnerable to the dangers of malaria. Pregnant women have weaker immunity, making it easier for malaria to cause complications such as severe anemia, miscarriage, or low-birth-weight babies. For infants and young children, their immune systems are still developing, so malaria can quickly become severe and life-threatening.
Protecting mothers supports safe pregnancies and healthy births.
Children protected early thrive and reach their full potential.
Natural repellents — safe, no harmful chemicals.
Community-led change creates lasting impact.

We train women to produce mosquito repellents using natural plants such as lemongrass and mint. Safe, effective, and scientifically proven — made entirely by community women in Tanzania.

We conduct awareness campaigns in local communities to educate people about malaria prevention methods. Village campaigns, school programs, and maternal care sessions reach over 5,000 people across 120+ communities.

We empower women to grow lemongrass around their homes — a plant scientifically proven to keep mosquitoes away. Sustainable prevention at zero ongoing cost that every family can maintain independently.
Our office is located in Morogoro, Tanzania, at Forest Street. We welcome visitors and partners interested in our malaria prevention initiatives.
View on MapMalaria is an infectious disease caused by tiny parasites called Plasmodium, transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito. Once the parasite enters the body, it first travels to the liver, where it multiplies quietly without causing symptoms.
After this stage, the parasites move into the bloodstream and begin to infect red blood cells, causing fever, chills, headaches, body weakness, and general discomfort. If not treated quickly, malaria may become severe, affecting vital organs and leading to life-threatening complications.
Malaria has serious impacts on pregnant women because the infection affects both the mother and the developing baby. During pregnancy, a woman's immune system becomes naturally weaker, making her more vulnerable to malaria infection and its complications.
Malaria can cause severe anemia, which reduces oxygen supply to both mother and fetus, increasing the risk of exhaustion, illness, and complications during childbirth. It can also lead to miscarriage, premature birth, or babies born with low birth weight.
Additionally, malaria parasites can accumulate in the placenta, interfering with the flow of nutrients to the baby. For these reasons, preventing malaria among pregnant women is a major public health priority.

Training women as community health leaders
A Tanzania where every expectant mother and child lives free from malaria. We envision communities empowered with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves — where no child misses school and no family loses a loved one needlessly.
To train women in producing natural mosquito repellents and equip them with malaria awareness knowledge so they can lead prevention efforts within their communities. We combine organic lemongrass-based technology with grassroots education across communities, schools, and clinics.

AfyaGuard was founded in response to the devastating reality that malaria continues to claim lives in Tanzania — particularly among pregnant women and young children who are most vulnerable.
We chose a community-first approach: training local women not just as producers of our repellents, but as health ambassadors who carry knowledge into every household.
Our office is located in Morogoro, Tanzania, at Forest Street, Mbuyuni — serving communities across the region and beyond.
View Our LocationEvery product is derived from natural plants — especially lemongrass grown locally in Tanzania. Safe for pregnant women, infants, and the environment.
